How to understand your houses
The list above shows the natural correspondence of houses to signs (the natural zodiac wheel). In your personal chart, the signs on house cusps depend entirely on your Ascendant -- the sign that was rising at the moment of your birth.
Why birth time is critical: the Ascendant shifts approximately 1 degree every 4 minutes. This means the entire house grid rotates throughout the day. Two people born on the same day but 3 hours apart will have completely different house placements -- their planets will fall in different life areas.
Planets in houses are the main focus of interpretation. A planet in a house brings its energy into that life area. Venus in the 7th house brings harmony to partnerships. Mars in the 10th house drives an ambitious career. Saturn in the 4th can indicate a strict family environment or challenges with real estate.
Angular houses (1, 4, 7, 10) are the most powerful. They correspond to the four angles of the chart -- ASC, IC, DSC, MC -- and represent the core pillars of life: self, home, relationships, and career. Planets in angular houses have the strongest visible effect.
